  Outdoor Comfort

SUNPAK Hanging Heaters

Sunpak heaters were specifically designed to provide heated comfort in an outdoor environment. They have been used on outdoor patios across the United States and Canada for over 30 years. When properly integrated intoa patio design, Sunpak hanging heaters generally increase the comfort level 5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit outdoors.

The heating effectiveness will depend on air temperature, wind velocity and other factors. Whenever possible local Sunpak installations should be reviewed to determine the effectiveness for regional environment.

    Appliance Design

The environments in which Sunpak heaters are utilized vary greatly. As an outdoor rated heater it has passed basic wind and rain tests. This does not mean the heater cannot be damaged by the environment or when operated in very windy conditions. For this reason it is strongly suggested that heaters be inspected and if necessary repaired annually or before each heating season.

SUNPAK's aluminized or stainless steel enclosure, together with the aluminum face grill, provides resistance to wind and rain. SUNPAK's slim body design (8 x 8 x 48 inches) and 0 to 30 degree angle mounting option on most models, gives SUNPAK the versatility to fit easily into a wide variety of patio situations. An optional mounting kit (part no. 12006) is available.

The SUNPAK hanging patio heater is design certified by the CSA International as an unvented infrared heater for outdoor or indoor (commercial) installation. All units are equipped with spark ignition and 100% shutoff for safety, economy, and convenience.

   SUNPAK FAQ

Where Can I Find More Information?
Please checkout our website at sunpak-patio-heaters.com.

Do you sell other kinds of patio heaters?
Yes, we sell the mushroom style in Natural Gas and the hanging type as well.  See our Sunglo section further down the page.

Can I order a SUNPAK from you directly?
Yes. Either call us on the phone 800-748-2678 or use our website at  onlineheaters.com.  We also offer discount pricing to qualified contractors, supply houses and quantity buyers. Please call us if you are a contractor or supply house to set up an account.

Are the SUNPAK units difficult to install?
Yes. This is not a project for the weekend do-it-yourself person. Safety is always our first concern. We recommend that you find a licensed, bonded HVAC contractor to do the installation. These units require plumbing and electrical skills to be installed correctly.

How many SUNPAK units do I need?
Coverage is relative to climate. Our experience has been that in warm climates (Southern California, Arizona, Florida, Texas) an S34 mounted between 8-9 feet, will cover a 12'x12' area and the S25 a 10'x 10' area. In cooler climates such as (Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Washington, Michigan) the coverages are more like 10'x 10' for an S34 and 8'x 8' for the S25. Wind is a big factor in any outdoor heating project. A continual breeze (20+ mph) will make heating any patio very difficult. We encourage patio owners to use natural wind breaks were possible.

Will I be able to use my patio during the winter months?
Depending on where you live, not likely. These heaters are not designed to melt snow and ice. Sunpak heaters generally increase the comfort level 5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit outdoors.

Can SUNPAK units be placed under an awning type patio cover?
Yes, as long as the clearances to combustibles are maintained. Additional clearance may be required for glass, painted surfaces, vinyl siding or other materials which may be damaged by radiant or convection heat.

Can the SUNPAK units be recessed into a ceiling?
No. The Sunpak Heaters should never be located in a ceiling recess or soffit.

Can I use SUNPAK units to heat my garage?
No. The SUNPAK units are approved for OUTDOOR residential use. We carry a great residential tube heater designed for low ceilings, call us for details.

What colors are available?
Both Sunpak models (S25, S34) are available in black or stainless steel.

What additional items are needed for installation?
A Sunpak mounting kit (part # 12006) and a 24 Volt transformer.

I thought these units used gas, why do I need a transformer?
The Sunpak series does use gas (natural or propane) as fuel for combustion. Electricity is needed to power the electronic ignition system. The Sunpak units operate on 24 Volts AC power only. A small step down transformer is needed to reduce line voltage ( 120 VAC) down to 24 VAC. The size of the transformer has nothing to do with the radiant output of the heater.

Can the heat output be adjusted? No.
The units are either "on" or "off".

Can the SUNPAK units be controlled with a thermostat?
Yes. We recommend however that something other than a thermostat be used. Thermostats operate on air temperature. Sunpak heaters heat up objects rather than the air, and the thermostat may not ever turn the heaters off. We recommend using a wall switch or timer.

Is there a warranty and what does it cover?
SUNPAK Infrared Heaters carry a 90 day commercial or one-year residential limited factory warranty. All heaters are stamped with the date of manufacture. Warranty is limited to repair of heaters at the factory or replacement parts. Any work or repair on a SUNPAK heater must be performed by qualified service personnel. Download the warranty here.

SUNGLO Mushroom Upright Heaters

For over 30 years Sunglo outdoor patio heaters have offered the quality and features customers have come to expect. Sunglo heaters work like the sun by utilizing radiant heat to warm people and objects without heating the surrounding air. The radiant heat quietly and efficiently provides outdoor warmth for you, your family and friends.

Colors and Finishes

Our popular Model A270 offers the ease and convenience of a fully self- contained portable heater. A five gallon propane tank will provide enough fuel for 8-10 hours of continuous use. Colors and finishes including silver- gray, white, forest green, and stainless steel. All Sunglo heaters are constructed of corrosion-resistant materials and coatings.

DSI Ignition

The optional DSI ignition system provides easy lighting with just a touch of a finger. A single AA battery is all that is needed for 100 easy lights. Removable access panel makes battery replacement a cinch.

Coverage, Comfort and Safety

Each Sunglo heater will cover, on average, a 15 foot diameter area, raising peoples' comfort level 5-10 F. Exposure to windy conditions will reduce the coverage accordingly. For semi-exposed areas we recommend 12 foot spacing between heaters. The safety system may automatically shut down the heater when exposed to direct winds over 10 mph.
