Clearance to Combustible Chart

DSCS_CChart

* Heaters mounted on an angle between 1° to 30° must maintain clearances posted for 0° or 30°; whichever is greater.
Important! if the heater is mounted beneath a non-combustible surface an 8 in. minimum top clearance must be maintained
from the top of the heater to prevent overheating the controls.
Clearance to combustible distances represent a surface temperature of 90°F (32°C) above ambient temperature.
Ensure that building materials with a low heat tolerance (i.e, awnings, fabrics, plastics, sprinklers, insulation) are protected against
degradation. This may require the heater to be mounted at a distance in excess of the published clearances to combustibles.
Contact the factory or the building material manufacturer for additional information.

DSCS_CDims

DSCS_FieldWiring

24 VAC @ 20VA is required per heater (supplied by installer).
Example: Two (2) DSCS Series heaters on the same circuit require the use of one (1) 40VA transformer.
Example: Three (3) DSCS Series heaters on the same circuit require the use of one (1) 60VA transformer.

Install Guide

Q. Can I use this in an enclosed patio?

A. No. This heater is unvented. You run the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Please make sure your patio is open on at least one side.

Q. Can I use this heater in a patio with roll down sides?

A. In some commercial applications, this might be possible.  Please consult us for further details.

Q. What type of heater can I use in an enclosed area?

A. Electric or the Detroit Radiant Residential Gas Tube Heater ( LD or LS Series).

Q. What is the minimum ceiling height needed?

A. Typically, you need at least a 10 ft ceiling height. The DSCS 34 N requires 18″ top clearance.

Q. My ceiling is non combustible material (concrete, brick, steel, ect…) Can I reduce the mounting clearances?

A. Not a good idea. The clearances are designed not only for fire protection but to allow a sufficient cushion of air around the heater. The exhaust gases need someplace to go. Without the proper clearances, the heater could overheat and exhibit incomplete combustion (sooting).

Q. Can I put the heater in a box type enclosure or recess it in the ceiling?

A. No.
